Around Town Tampa Bay Edition July 2016

The Gasparilla Pirate Festival is an annual celebration held in the city of Ybor, Florida since 1904. Held each year in late January or early February and hosted by Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla and the City of Tampa, it celebrates the apocryphal legend of José Gaspar (Gasparilla), a mythical Spanish pirate captain who supposedly operated in Southwest Florida. As of the 100th edition of the Gasparilla Festival in 2015 (it was cancelled during World Wars), the parade was the 3rd largest in the United States and had an economic impact of $23 million on Tampa's economy.

Through August. Exhibit Works by Artist Chase Miller. The official gallery opening and opening reception will be on Friday, July 8. Miller’s exciting exhibit at the Center will feature works from her tree, aquatic, abstract and photorealism collections, along with a few animal portraits. 3 Red, White and Blue Fest. Tampa’s Channel District celebrates the 4th of July a day early with igloo drag racing, an LED sports kite demo, patriotic face painting, an all-American food court, live music and a Meet-and-Greet with Miss National Patriot 2016, Ann Poonkasem.
