50 years later, Americans can fly to Cuba any day of the week

For the first time in more than 50 years, commercial flights are being offered to Cuba from America, and it’s all happening right here in Florida. In August, Jet Blue made its inaugural flight from Ft. Lauderdale to Santa Clara, a city about three hours east of Havana, in less than an hour.

The airline offered one way tickets for $99, and the flight filled to capacity.

Jet Blue flew this route every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from August until the end of September, and beginning on October 1 the airline plans to provide daily service to this same destination.

Jet Blue plans to also offer daily service beginning in November to two other destinations in Cuba, Camaguey and Holguin. These flights are to also depart from Ft. Lauderdale.

Airlines expected to join Jet Blue on flights from Florida to Cuba this fall are Southwest, Delta, Frontier, Spirit, United, American and the commuter air service Siler Airways.

In addition to Ft. Lauderdale flights to Cuba, others are anticipated to originate out of Tampa, Orlando and Miami.
