Calling all Centenarians: Help set a world record

Extraordinary local event seeks to honor those 100 and older - and claim a place in the Guinness Book of World Records.

In 2013, 40 centenarians gathered in Somerset, New Jersey and set a world record for the greatest number of people ages 100 and over gathered in one place.

Three years later, the Centenarian Committee in Sun City Center is out to the break that record with the help of Florida’s 100 and up. If you’ve been on this earth for over a century – or if you know someone who has – help be a part of a Guinness World Record attempt by participating in Sun City Center’s special Centenarian Celebration honoring the incredible feat of living for over a century.

Comprised of a group of local community business leaders from diverse industries, the Centenarian Committee is in search of any and all local residents 100 years or older – including residents who will celebrate their 100th birthday sometime this calendar year. If you’re a centenarian, come participate in this event held in your honor, on April 27th at 2 p.m. at the Sun City Center Community Association.

This exciting event is a follow-up to Sun City Center’s spectacular Celebration of Centenarians in 2014, that was just ten attendees shy of breaking the world record. Its eldest attendee was 104 and was a beloved, member of his community. Always a service-minded local, he had over 20 years of service as a volunteer with the Sun City Center Emergency Squad. 2014’s event hosted an impressive 30 centenarians, but this year’s event is going for the gold.

If you will be 100 or older in 2016, or if you know someone who will, call (813) 634-0172 for more information on how to participate in this event and try to earn a place in the Guinness Book of World Records!
