January… a new beginning. Time to reflect on the past year and make resolutions for the new one, to start a new project, take up a new hobby, or recommit to good habits that may have slipped away.
Not only does July mean that summer is well underway for Floridians, but it’s also the month of celebrating independence. Typically, we recognize the importance of our autonomy on the Fourth of July with fireworks, hot dogs and picnic salads. What better way to enjoy summer?
Here we are again at the edge, looking out at the potential 2022 presents. Have you decided what you’d like to accomplish this year? With each January comes a renewed focus on personal health, whether it be physical or emotional health or just general well-being. The onset of a new year is a great time to begin new daily practices that can help nourish you from the inside out.
With springtime comes an urge to reinvent ourselves. Most of us feel this at the beginning of January and take action to change our lifestyles for the better. Then come spring, we need another push to keep up with the positive changes we’ve implemented (or given up).  Spring is an opportunity for rebirth in every sense.
With autumn well under way, October promises cooler temperatures for Floridians and the hope for less rain than September gave us. Not only does the weather begin to make its seasonal pivot, but this month means the start of the rich, cozy holiday season—starting with Halloween, or Día de Muertos for those practicing Mexican culture, moving to Thanksgiving and finally December’s family-oriented holiday celebrations.
November has always been a favorite month of mine. Growing up in the Midwest, it always meant that the weather was officially set for cozy holidays like Thanksgiving, Christmas and the new year. The cold November rain that Axl Rose so passionately described is in full affect, making it perfect weather to curl into a plush throw blanket and pick up that psycho-thriller novel you’ve been working on for, well, too long.
My most comforting memories involve family, specifically time spent with my grandparents. When I was younger, I would spend a weekend here and there at their house. My grandma would pick me up on a Friday from my parents’ house and we would go to our local Meijer. I would “help” her do the grocery shopping for the week.
With spring well underway and summer ahead, many of us are looking to get out of the house and enjoy the season. For those who have time, volunteering is a fantastic option to get more involved with your community, make friends and explore new interests. Below are a few places you can volunteer in your area.
The month of May is always exciting as it marks what feels like the start of summer (even though the season does not officially start until June 21) and several holidays sprinkled throughout the month. From goofy celebratory puns to a somber holiday in which we honor fallen military servicemen and women, here’s your guide to celebrating this month.
December is finally here. Our snowbird friends have joined us for the winter, and we’re buckling in for various holiday celebrations and bracing ourselves for the continuance of dropping temperatures. You may have started planning out your month between finances, travel and managing the dwindling hours of sunlight in order to stay organized during the jolliest time of the year. You might also be wondering what would make a perfect gift for that one person (or people) that seem to be impossible to shop for.
