Each year when March rolls around, it marks the official start of spring about midway through the month. This year may feel a bit different than last given the pandemic that continues to stretch forward and all of the changes we’ve experienced with its presence. What better way to ward off the COVID and winter blues than by enjoying the fresh air of the season?
Ah, finally. We’re moving into fall. I’m sure I’ve said this before, but October seems to be one of those pivotal months of the year. The weather starts changing, we move into holiday season mode, and it’s just generally a great month for finding events and festivals to keep us occupied.
Last year, I wrote about how November has always been my favorite month—the anticipation of the holidays, the cooler atmosphere and the perfect weather for having cozy afternoons indoors. My opinion still has not changed, I just wanted to reminisce and recap.
The month of May is always exciting as it marks what feels like the start of summer (even though the season does not officially start until June 21) and several holidays sprinkled throughout the month. From goofy celebratory puns to a somber holiday in which we honor fallen military servicemen and women, here’s your guide to celebrating this month.
And just like that, 2021 is nearly over. Some of us may be rejoicing, and others may just be in awe that another year has flown by. However, December is one of my favorite months regardless of its year-ending significance.
My most comforting memories involve family, specifically time spent with my grandparents. When I was younger, I would spend a weekend here and there at their house. My grandma would pick me up on a Friday from my parents’ house and we would go to our local Meijer. I would “help” her do the grocery shopping for the week.
Each February is coated in heart-shaped everything. From sweaters to chocolates and everything in between, this month is defined by those colorful little doodles. However, this month isn’t just about the cartoon version of what beats in our chests—it's also American Heart Month. With that comes increased awareness of what you can do to keep your ticker in tip-top shape.
As with almost every Letter from the Editor that I write, there are celebrations to be had this month. We are currently in the midst of summer and nearly the mid to late end of the season. With that comes balmy temperatures and different occasions and holidays. Of course, there is the Fourth of July, which is always a fun time and a great excuse to stay up late in celebration. However, July also includes Parents’ Day on the 23rd, a little-known and celebrated holiday.
Here we are again at the edge, looking out at the potential 2022 presents. Have you decided what you’d like to accomplish this year? With each January comes a renewed focus on personal health, whether it be physical or emotional health or just general well-being. The onset of a new year is a great time to begin new daily practices that can help nourish you from the inside out.
January… a new beginning. Time to reflect on the past year and make resolutions for the new one, to start a new project, take up a new hobby, or recommit to good habits that may have slipped away.
