Motown the Musical

Get ready cuz here it comes! Motown the Musical, which opened on Broadway in 2013, will be churning out the classic hits at the Straz in Tampa, August 8 – 13. The musical features more than 60 beloved songs from the Motown catalogue, arranged and orchestrated to resemble the originals.

The show tells the true story of Motown founder Berry Gordy’s journey from featherweight boxer to heavyweight music mogul. His record company gave birth to some of the nation’s most iconic performers including Diana Ross and the Supremes, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, Stevie Wonder, the Temptations, the Jackson 5, and many more. The Motown sounds not only created great dance music, but they would help to reshape America’s social and political landscape as well. As the white audiences embraced the soul aesthetic, cultural barriers toppled.
