Seminole resident Karl Hughes and Sharon Haley of Clearwater were among the medal winners at the 2019 National Senior Games held June 15-24 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Floridians had an impressive showing, winning 450 medals – the third highest total of all 50 U.S. states.
The distance between Florida and New Mexico did not deter Florida athletes, as 687
made the trip out west for competition in 20 sports. Nearly 14,000 athletes, age 50 and over, competed in the 2019 National Senior Games.
Hughes won a silver medal in the Men’s 5K Race Walk 55-59 age group, and Haley had a
fifth-place finish in the Women’s 5K Race Walk and a fourth-place finish in the 1500 Meter Race Walk.
