Answer: Identify someone to manage benefits for you. You may become unable to manage your own Social Security benefits if you get sick or experience other challenges. Plan ahead and tell us now who should manage your benefits if you experience something unexpected. We won’t contact the person you pick unless you become unable to manage your benefits.

Question: I want to submit a request to pay taxes on my Social Security benefit throughout the year instead of paying a large bill at tax time.
Answer: Download Form W-4V: “Voluntary Withholding Request” from the IRS website. Then, find the Social Security office closest to your home and mail or fax us the completed form. Find the office address at www.ssa.gov or call us at 1-800-772-1213. Tell the representative you want to submit a request to withhold taxes from your Social Security benefit throughout the year. Answer: Yes. Cancel or withdraw your application up to 12 months after your benefit approval. You can only cancel your application once and can reapply later. If you’ve begun receiving payments, you will have to repay the money you and your family received, as well as money we withheld for Medicare premiums, taxes, and garnishments. Use Form 521: “Request for Withdrawal of Application.”
